Revolution Foods: Dinner Hero

Dinner is solved

By V. Garcia April 20, 2017

At lot of us are working mothers. This makes time management key. How can I make sure I have a good meal on the table without having a lot of time to prep? Mom's to the rescue. Two mom's, Kristen and Kirsten started Revolution Foods with a mission to transform the way America eats by providing access to healthy, affordable meals. They believe that proper nutrition is a cornerstone of providing our youth the nourishment they need to lead successful lives. They applied what they call food philosophy. To them, nurturing bright minds starts with fueling active bodies. They believe that everyone deserves access to high quality food made with carefully considered ingredients. We believe in food that tastes good, food that promotes growth and development.

Cooking with your kids is a great way to bond and it also helps boost their confidence, build their math skills and explore their senses. One study found that kids who cook at home are more likely to eat fruits and vegetables!

With the mission of building lifelong heathy eaters, Revolution Foods’ new Dinner Hero speed scratch cooking meal solutions are a great way for families to cook together and experience new flavors. With cookbook style instructions, parents and children can create an easy and healthy meal in under 30 minutes by adding the custom spice blend to a protein and cooking up the grain blends (basmati brown rice and quinoa blend or basmati brown rice and bamboo rice) – Dinner Hero comes in four chef-created flavors: Coconut Curry, Garlic Sesame, Fiesta Taco and Smoky Tomato.

Here are four tips for cooking with your kids from Kirsten Saenz Tobey, mom of three girls and founder of Revolution Foods, which serves over two million healthy meals in schools each week:

1. Powering the Palate – many kids are picky eaters, but if they are involved in the process, they will be more interested in trying what they’ve cooked, even just one bite is a step towards expanding their palate.

2. Time well spent – accept that it’s going to take longer and be messier than if you were doing it yourself. Dress kids in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, and focus on the process not the outcome.

3. A world of flavors – use the opportunity to talk with your children about other cultures, the foods that they eat, and introduce new flavors.

4. Ages and Stages – cooking is a fun and engaging activity for kids of all ages - toddlers can help stir or pour ingredients, preschoolers can count and wash ingredients, elementary schoolers can open, measure and mix ingredients, and older children can even help with chopping or using the stove, depending on their maturity level and age.

JCMK (Jersey City Macaroni Kid) had the opportunity to try these ingenious meal kits and we were blown away. My daughter and I made Garlic Sesame and used chicken as the protein. The recipe is designed for chicken, however if you want to use something else just be sure that you adjust the cooking time. We were able to follow the step by step instructions very easily and I gave several tasks to my 6 year old. She was so much more excited to east dinner because she had a hand it making it. I don't want to break the experience down step by step because I really want people to try the kits but I will say that the packaging doubles as a cookbook, enhancing the cooking experience. Our family was able to sit down to a delicious, healthy and satisfying meal in just 30 minutes.
