NJPAC PRSENTS FREE WORKSHOPS
TO INSPIRE, EDUCATE AND CELEBRATE THE SIGNIFICANCE
OF ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER
 TO AMERICAN CULTURE

New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) will hold a series of FREE workshops and events to inspire, educate and celebrate Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and its significance to American culture.

Learn the moves practiced by Ailey dancers at a Dance Workshop on Saturday, April 29 from 9 a.m. to noon (8:30 a.m. check-in and warm up) in NJPAC’s Chase Room. The program will be led by Freddie Moore and the Rev. Eyesha Marable.

Also on April 29, at 2 p.m., a representative of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will share stories about many prominent dancers whose journeys continue to influence today’s dance artists. “Dancers Who Inspire Me” will take place at the Rutgers-Newark Barnes & Noble in the Hahne & Co. building, 42 Halsey St. entrance.

It’s all about food! “Dancers Who Cook” will be a combination of cooking demonstrations and discussions on how and why dancers prepare healthy meals to strengthen their bodies and maintain stamina during performances. “Dancers Who Cook” will take place on Thursday, May 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the new Whole Foods in the Hahne & Co. building, 633 Broad St. entrance.

Each year NJPAC is honored to be the only New Jersey arts center to present Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, its Principal Resident Dance Company. The company’s 32 remarkable dancers, under the artistic direction of Robert Battle, enlighten and uplift audiences with premieres and beloved works each season. The Ailey company’s Mother’s Day weekend engagement at NJPAC is from May 12-14. Program information is found at njpac.org.

Prior to each performance, there will be special presentations by some of New Jersey’s talented young artists in the Prudential Hall Lobby. For more information about these Preludes for ticket holders, visit njpac.org/events/detail/alvin-ailey-american-dance-theater-2017.
